Welcome to the upcoming 2012/2013 school year! My name is Amanda Merriman and I am the French Immersion grade 7 and 8 math and science teacher at École Coloniale Estates School. I am very excited to be coming to ECES and to be working with such a wonderful staff and, of course, teaching you!
I am new to this school district so I thought I would tell you a little bit about myself. You can also visit http://merriman.shawwebspace.ca/ for more information about me. I grew up in St. Albert and have been in French immersion since kindergarten and am a proud Anglophone. I learnt Spanish during my first year teaching biology to ESL students in Monterrey, Mexico. For the past 9 years I worked as the French Immersion math and science 7-9 teacher at École Queen Elizabeth Junior High School in Wetaskiwin. I also taught Health, French, Spanish, and Electronics & Robotics. I come from a family of teachers and my mother-in-law, Elaine Merriman, may have taught you or your family members at Bellevue. My husband is a music teacher in Sherwood Park and we have two children, Ailee who is six and Aidan who is three.
Junior high is often a big change for some students and I will work hard to help you with the transition. You do not have the same teacher for each subject and will really have to work hard at staying organized and being responsible for yourself and your school work. I will give you some tricks and ideas in September and some great studying strategies all year long.
Here are some important dates to remember:
· September 4th – First day of classes (full day!)
· September 5th – Meet the teacher night and School Council AGM
· September 7th - Welcome back assembly
Parents and Guardians I always appreciate your input and unique insight into your kids world so please don’t be afraid to contact me anytime. The best way is via email but please feel free to call or drop in to the school anytime.
Merci et bienvenue!
