Le Fin

Mes cher parents,

It is with great sadness that I let you all know that May 3rd, 2013 will be my last day teaching your kids.  Due to recent provincial budget cuts to our AISI program (Alberta Initiative for School Improvement) the teacher whose contract I am tied to will be returning for the remainder of the year.  Mr. Skoreyko will be coming in to meet the class sometime this month.  I will make sure the transition is as smooth as possible and that he has everything he needs to take the kids to the end of the year.   I have been teaching study skills and have had the kids make review booklets all year so they should be ready for June.

Please know that I recognize that this is not in the best interest of the children and that it was not my choice or even that of our school.  Mr.Cable has been very supportive in making sure the kids understand and answering any questions we have had.  He fought to keep me here but the money is just not available.  If you have any questions please let me know or contact Mr. Cable.

After May 3rd I will be coming in to sub as much as possible so I told your kids to cough on all their teachers ( LOL ... just kidding!).   I am very hopeful that with the new school re-zoning that there will be room for me somewhere next year.

I have really enjoyed teaching each and every one of your kids and they all hold a special place in my heart.  They are a unique and wonderful group of children who have taught me so much and inspire me daily.  I truly appreciate all of the support and generosity that all of you parents have shown me through all of the ups and downs of the year.

Thank you so much for letting me be a part of their lives.

Here are the highlights from Parent-Teacher interviews.  Come on in and say hello!

Main tips:

  1. Ask for help!  During class work time, at lunch, or even at lunch recess on day 4.  I know it can be daunting but you can do it!  The kids who ask for help get the most so be one of them!
  2. Use your class time well.  It is fun to talk with your friends but then you end up having to spend more time at home working on homework you could have done in class.
  3. Exams - BE PREPARED!!  Do your foldables for math and review books for science as well as you can so that you are ready to rock.  During a test or quiz I can translate a word or offer a synonym.  Just ask!
  4. If you miss a class come and see me for help and get your homework caught up ASAP.
  5. Have a random thought?  Write it down and save it for recess or at the end of the day.  Let's keep our thoughts on track and really participate well in discussions.
  6. EASTER BREAK - Use this time to get caught up on any missed work.  That means come and see me before the break for now copies of worksheets etc.  Also for my math classes you can get BONUS MATHLETICS points that will help with previous weeks if they were not 100%.  Remember it is a minimum of 1000 points per week.
  7. Keep on working hard as the end of the year progresses.  Keep up instead of catch up.  I am proud of you all and look forward to finishing of this year together.

No one believes me when I say I have over 30 kids!!

Body Image

In health we are discussing body image in the media.  The pressure to be perfect and pretty is overwhelming and just not realistic.  I want my kids to see that it is true that it is what's on the inside that counts.  I want them to be healthy and active and not just trying to fit an image painted by our media of what "thin" and pretty is.  I want them to find their own inner beauty and re-define what they think is beautiful about everyone around them.

Some of the pictures and ideas studied in the slide show are available below as well as important weblinks.  They will be doing a project about what is beautiful to/about them.

Dove True Colours

Over spring break I want you to take some pictures of what you think is beautiful.  It can be a beautiful person or feature of a person, something that symbolizes a feeling or characteristic, or something beautiful in the world around you.   Email 1-3 pictures to yourself to put into our class collage (power point) after break.  If you do not have a camera or a digital copy of a picture you can bring in a printed copy to scan.  I'm very excited to see what you all come up with.

We all went to the Town Hall to be a part of the raising of the Franco-Albertan flag.  All of the French Immersion classes in Beaumont were present as well as several local and provincial dignitaries.  Then we went to JE Lapointe for a French rock concert from les 10e12e from BCHS.

TRIVIA!!  A hypercolour pencil for the THREE people who can tell me what the following parts of the Franco-Albertan flag stand for.  Please only answer for one because you can only win once.

The white background and felur-de-lis

Great demos

I found this YouTube Chanel made by a homeschooling parent with great videos to demo just about anything you can think of.  We will be using this soon!
